Eddie Howe has spoken to the media this morning ahead of tomorrow's Premier League match against Aston Villa and has moved to squash the rumours around Callum Wilson.

With just a few days left of the January transfer window, Eddie Howe is still fending off questions about possible player exits with Callum Wilson being one of the big names linked with a move away.

Despite currently being injured, there has been a lot of talk about Callum Wilson moving on during this window which would leave Newcastle United in a perilous position with just one recognised striker in the squad.

Eddie Howe insists Wilson is going nowhere this week

With no sign of any incoming transfers, especially in that position, it would have been a strange move if Newcastle were to sell Wilson this month.

Thankfully in his press conference this morning, Eddie Howe has made it very clear that Wilson is staying at Newcastle and that it is also the player's choice too saying that Wilson is 100% committed to the club (via The Chronicle).

"Callum is 100 percent committed just like Kieran [Trippier]. That is why I surprised by the noise about Callum. He is currently injured. From his perspective and our perspective, there is nothing in it."

Summer could be a much more fun time for Newcastle

In the summer things could change, we're fully expecting there to be some big changes in the off-season and we could see some big names leave. Especially those on the wrong side of 30.

Newcastle will have a healthier transfer budget in the summer but bolstering it with a few player sales is never a bad idea in these FFP times in which we live.

This month has been a huge disappointment in terms of transfers, especially in light of the difficulties Eddie Howe has had in putting out full squads this season, but we're positive that this pain will all be forgotten come summer when we start throwing that Adidas cash around.
