Newcastle United will host Manchester City in the third round of this season's Carabao Cup.
Darren Moore and Izzy Christiansen conducted the draw live on Sky at Doncaster Rovers' Eco-Power Stadium following Rovers' 2-1 defeat to Everton on Wednesday evening.
The fixture will take place between The Magpies' visit to Sheffield United on Sunday the 24th of September and the home game with Burnley on Saturday the 30th of September. As the match at Bramall Lane has already been selected as a Sky "Super Sunday" broadcast, Wednesday the 27th of September looks the most likely date on the calendar to us.
Eddie Howe led his squad all the way to the final at Wembley last season, thanks to victories against Tranmere Rovers, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, Leicester City, and Southampton (over two legs). The Head Coach will be hoping to go one better this season and has been very clear about putting as much effort as possible into all four competitions in 2023/24.
We've never won the League Cup in our almost 131-year history, though we haven't won any major trophy for 54 years now! We've never felt closer, though. It feels like a matter of "when" and not "if" with the owners and management team we've got in place. The Carabao Cup remains our best chance of ending the drought, so let's hope we give it everything.
