Newcastle United have announced the signing of youngster Alife Harrison from Manchester City for an undisclosed fee.

The 18-year-old has signed a contract until 2026 and will join up with Newcastle's youth setup when all of the paperwork is ratified.

Harrison has been compared to Erling Haaland due to sporting a similar look to the cyborg striker, however, Harrison plays in midfield but is also not shy of a goal or two having bagged eight goals and four assists in the Premier League 2 this season already.

Newcastle being able to prise away a player of Harrison's reputation from Manchester City is surely a sign that the club is definitely on the right track. The project must have been sold to him in such a way that he felt better served at Newcastle than at last season's treble winners.

Speaking to NUFC.co.uk after signing, Harrison shared what it was that attracted him to Newcastle.

"The size of the club and what it has got going for it is massive for me. It's got a huge, passionate fanbase and I'm looking to really push on with my career now.

"If I was a kid now, looking at me signing for Newcastle United, it's what dreams are made of. I'm really looking forward to what is coming and how I can progress in the coming years.

"I'm an effective player who can add goals and assists. I really like to create stuff but, on the other side, I'd also say I'm a very passionate player who always wants to win.

Could there be any more announcements today?

He may not be a signing for the first team just yet, but the team Dan Ashworth is building for the future with signings like this is very exciting.

With just a few hours to go before the transfer window shuts, this does look like it will be the only transfer announcement we'll get from Newcastle today one way or another.

We'll still be keeping an eye out just in case.
