Newcastle United were haunted by former players in December with Andros Townsend and Chris Wood both finding the net against the Magpies.

In fact, Chris Wood scored a hat trick against his former employers at St James' Park meaning that he's now scored more goals for Nottingham Forest on our hallowed turf than he did when he played for us.

With the two clubs set to duke it out again this weekend, Chris Wood will have been hoping to pile on the misery for Eddie Howe, but it has been revealed today that the New Zealand international is injured and won't be involved this weekend.

Newcastle are hoping Gordon will be fit by the weekend

Chris Wood has been in excellent form for Forest lately scoring five goals in his last seven appearances, but the striker was hooked at half time in the game against Arsenal with a hamstring injury and missed the weekend's game against Bournemouth. The Nottingham Post has now said he has been ruled out for the next two months.

Newcastle failed to exact their revenge over Luton Town on Saturday playing out a 4-4 draw in one of the most entertaining matches of the season - unless you supported either side that is, then it was just stressful.

Newcastle are hoping Anthony Gordon will be fit for Saturday

Forest humiliated Newcastle in December following Luton's unlikely victory, so once again, the Magpies will have revenge on their mind. Hopefully, things go a bit better for us this weekend.

Alexander Isak is likely to miss the trip to the City Ground, but Callum Wilson managed 45 minutes on Saturday and should be ready to play the full 90 against Forest.

Official news is still awaited on Anthony Gordon but it's expected that his injury isn't as bad as first feared and that he should be able to play a part on Saturday, so Newcastle will go into the game with options up front and you'd expect that Eddie Howe will be working on the defence in training this week after the BBC revealed the true horror of Newcastle's defensive stats over the last five games.
