Newcastle United found it difficult to move players on in the summer with most players who left the club doing so on loan.
One player Newcastle really struggled to shift was midfielder Isaac Hayden with the 28-year-old still locked into a hefty contract at the club.
In fact, the English transfer window had closed by the time Hayden made his move to Standard Liege in Belgium where he remains going into the January window.
It's now being reported by Football Insider that Newcastle could be about to recall the midfielder and terminate his loan deal with Liege and send Hayden out to a Championship side.
Hayden has struggled for form in Belgium and has not registered a single goal or assist in his time there. He has played just 10 times for the club and didn't feature at all in four of the last five games.
There is apparently plenty of interest in Hayden from Championship sides and it may suit everyone better if that's where he ends up.
Hayden's career has been blighted by injuries which seems to have really affected him as he had bags of potential. We saw flashes of greatness from him, but since Eddie Howe came into the club it has been clear that his future lies elsewhere.
Ideally, Newcastle would love to move him on permanently, but the contract given to him under Mike Ashley is making that very difficult.
The report doesn't name any club specifically, so it would be a bold move to tear up his deal with Liege without having somewhere else for him to go, especially given how hard it was to get that Liege deal in the first place. We could end up being stuck with him for the second half of the season which wouldn't be good for us or him.
