Newcastle United Women's team has gone from strength to strength under the new regime and now sit top of the league.

Amanda Staveley made it abundantly clear when her Saudi-backed takeover went through that their focus would not be solely on the men's team.

The academy and the women's team would all receive the help they need to become big players in their respective fields.

Amanda Staveley made the Women's team professional in June 2023

It was just this year that Amanda Staveley took the decision to make the Women's team professional, one year after making them an official part of the club, and it is already paying dividends.

Wor Lasses

The lasses 1-0 win against West Brom on Sunday extended their current unbeaten run to an astonishing 27 games and kept them top of the table, two points ahead of Burnley.

Since the takeover, the lasses have been breaking records for fun. Drawing in bigger crowds for regular games consistently, but really putting up the numbers when playing at St James' Park, and considering they're doing this from the third tier of Women's football is truly impressive.

Newcastle look set to shoot up the leagues

If manager Becky Langley can keep this up then next season the Women's side will leap into the Women's Championship, just one step away from the Women's Super League which now has regular coverage on Sky Sports.

The professional status granted to the women's team this year gives them a leg-up on most of the opposition in the Premier League North and stands them in good stead for the Championship.

The women's side's success alongside that of the men's team shows just how well the club is being run currently. From an on-field perspective at least before we get into the whole ticketing thing again.

Good look to the lasses and long may this unbeaten run continue.
