Another Newcastle United hero has been inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame

A second Newcastle United number 9 has been inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame following Alan Shearer.

Although he will go down as a Manchester United entry, he wouldn't have got there had he not been so prolific for Newcastle United.

We're talking, of course, about Andrew (Andy) Cole who, along with John Terry was today announced as the latest inductee to the Premier League Hall of Fame.

Cole was a Newcastle striker in the Premier League for two seasons before moving to Manchester United in a £7million move that saw Keith Gillespie move the other way as part of the deal.

Andy Cole scored 12 goals in as many games after securing a move to Newcastle in February 1993, helping the Magpies to the Division One title (now the Championship).

He went on to make 58 Premier League appearances for Newcastle, scoring 43 goals before Manchester United came knocking.

Cole made 195 Premier League appearances and scored 93 goals for Manchester United helping them to five titles along the way.

Something I'd completely forgotten about - Andy Cole also made seven Premier League appearances for Sunderland towards the end of his career, but we won't hold that against him.

I remember the devastation of hearing about his Manchester United move. It was bad enough losing him, but to Man United of all clubs? That one just stung. On the flip side, though, it paved the way for Les Ferdinand and ultimately Alan Shearer. Also, Keith Gillespie was absolutely excellent for us, so we didn't do too bad out of the deal.
