Arsenal have been linked many times with a move for Alexander Isak in the summer transfer window but now David Ornstein thinks they have another Newcastle United star in their sights.

Journalists must be getting bored of the Isak to Arsenal story now so they've decided to switch it up. Not a lot, but it's a slight change of pace.

The Athletic's David Ornstein, who is usually pretty reliable, has now said that Arsenal also have a keen interest in Newcastle's Bruno Guimaraes.

The idea seems to be borne of that pesky release clause again more than any actual facts, though.

Bruno is a Geordie ... and it's staying that way

David Ornstein linked Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal

Speaking on The Athletic Football Podcast, Ornstein threw Bruno's name out there as someone Arsenal like without any real conviction.

“Somebody who I think of off the top of my head that Arsenal and other clubs really like is Bruno Guimaraes. He can play as an eight or as a six. Newcastle hope to keep hold of him, there is a release clause though and anyone who is going to take him he has to deliver straight away.”

Let's ignore for a second that Bruno's release clause doesn't apply to Premier League sides, from what's been reported, but since when did Arsenal become the richest club in the world? How have they managed to turn off the Financial Fair Play option in the menu before the transfer window? They're reportedly eyeing £200million of talent at Newcastle alone? Nah, I don't see it.

We're giving Ornstein the benefit of a doubt here

Look, we like David Ornstein, as we say, he's usually a reliable journalist, but this is poor from him.

We know it's hard when you're live, recording a podcast, sometimes you just say things without really thinking them through and we hope this is one of those times, but just to make it clear - Arsenal are not getting their hands on any of our top players this summer, particularly not Bruno or Isak.

I'm sure that's a message we'll have to keep repeating until the window shuts, but it's a drum we'll keep beating in the hope that it stays true.
