Liverpool could now play a huge part in Yankuba Minteh's future if reports are to be believed

Newcastle United have a big call to make this summer over what to do with 19-year-old Yankuba Minteh who is coming off the back off a great season with Feyenoord.

The Gambia international joined the Dutch club mere minutes after signing his Newcastle contract last summer. It all happened so fast that Minteh didn't even visit Newcastle until December despite being employed by the club.

During his time at Feyenoord, Minteh has come in for a fair amount of criticism for some of his decision-making in the final third, but under the guidance of Arne Slot, Minteh is working those kinks out of his game and has become an important player for the Rotterdam side.

He was in the starting XI on Sunday as Feyenoord competed in the KNVB Cup final, eventually winning 1-0 with Minteh being involved in the build-up for the winning goal before being sent off on 72 minutes for picking up a second yellow card.

Liverpool want Feyenoord boss Arne Slot

Feyenoord have been very open about the fact that they would love to extend Minteh's loan for another season having already had discussions with Newcastle about an extension.

Minteh himself is also keen to return, however, Eddie Howe wants to see what Minteh can do for himself before making any decisions and as such, the youngster will be part of Newcastle's pre-season so that Howe can assess his ability.

Now, though, Liverpool could be about to throw a spanner in the works as Feyenoord manager Arne Slot is high up on the Reds' list of replacements for outbound Jurgen Klopp.

Slot has been instrumental in Minteh's development

Slot and Minteh have worked well together and we feel that it's Slot's belief in his ability that has helped him develop as quickly and as well as he did.

Thinking back to Minteh's first appearance for Feyenoord in pre-season when they were awarded a penalty and Slot could be heard bellowing from the sideline to let Minteh take it, which he did and duly scored.

That belief and trust never wavered and if Slot was to leave Feyenoord, we're not sure what would happen, whether Minteh would be as keen to return or even if Feyenoord would still want to extend his loan.
