John Anderson's voice—and more recently his laugh—has become synonymous with Newcastle United thanks to his long career as a co-commentator on BBC Radio Newcastle.
The former Republic of Ireland international has never come across as the type to show his emotions, though, especially not during a playing career in which he spent 10 years as a Newcastle player in the 1980s and early 1990s.
Chalking up 337 league appearances at St. James' Park in his time and scoring 14 goals in the process, the full-back was always a tough proposition for opponents and even today he admires "proper defending" and gritty play.
Still, though, even "Ando", as he's affectionately known at BBC Radio Newcastle and around the football club, couldn't fail to be moved as Eddie Howe's players lined up for the Champions League anthem ahead of their demolition of Paris Saint-Germain last night.
Don't believe us? See for yourself in this clip from Total Sport host Simon Pryde's X account:
You can see former Newcastle assistant manager and interim John Carver alongside Anderson there, who also appears to be swelling with pride, as well as superb lead commentator for BBC Radio Newcastle Matthew "Razor" Raisbeck capturing the moment on his phone with a glint in his eye.
The clip is also another chance to enjoy that mid-anthem roar and the collective bellowing of "THE CHAMPIONS!" by the crowd at the end of the piece. We've watched various videos of the anthem countless times now and every single one has hit us right in the feels.
Just another small highlight from a magical evening at the cathedral on the hill. Bring on Dortmund!
