Newcastle United know they face a battle to keep their big stars at the club, especially in light of failing to qualify for the Champions League this season.

There is almost constant speculation regarding the futures of Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak who are seen to be Newcastle's biggest stars.

Even though it's clear that Newcastle are on an upward trajectory and the board have made their objectives extremely clear following the 2021 takeover, there are still those in the media who see Newcastle as a small club and hate the fact that we could have players capable of walking into any of the big six's starting elevens.

It is inevitable then that journalists will go out of their way to link our top players with a move away from St James' Park, no matter how much they declare their happiness.

Newcastle could be about to offer Alexander Isak a new deal

That being said, we're not so naive as to think that we can keep hold of Bruno and Isak forever if we're not reaching the levels we promised them when we pitched the club to them back when they agreed to join.

This season has hardly gone according to plan with so many external factors affecting our league position. It's impossible to say where we'd be if we hadn't had so many injuries during this campaign, but given where we are now and the fact that we may still qualify for Europe, it's safe to say we'd likely not have been far off where we finished last season.

That's likely what the club will be saying to Alexander Isak behind closed doors as The Telegraph is reporting that Newcastle are set to offer the striker who Eddie Howe described as a 'rare talent' a new deal in the coming weeks despite having four years left on his current contract.

Putting Isak up there with the highest earners is a wise move

It's a move that makes a lot of sense for many reasons. Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton have just signed bumper deals and we need to make Isak aware that he's valued just as highly. It also outlines the club's commitment to improving and reaching those aforementioned goals.

There was also a rumour going around social media that Isak would be in for a 20% pay cut next season as the club failed to secure Champions League football. Were that the case, then we would be at a huge risk of one of these reported interested parties turning his head.

Hopefully, the club can get this new deal tied up ASAP and we can hammer home the fact that Isak and Bruno are not for sale and we can stop having to talk about them going.
