Nottingham Forest were left seething at the weekend after Everton's Ashley Young somehow got away with three blatant penalty decisions helping the Toffees to a much-needed win.

Both Nottingham Forest and Everton are fighting for their Premier League lives, and that task has been made even more difficult for both clubs after being slapped with points deductions for breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

The two sides met on Sunday with Everton emerging victorious with a 2-0 victory. However, Nottingham Forest had every right to feel aggrieved at full-time after the referee and VAR failed to award Forest with a penalty on three separate occasions, all involving the same player, Ashley Young.

Following the match, Nottingham Forest put out a statement via X condemning the PGMOL's decision to run with a Luton fan on VAR with Luton Town also part of the relegation fight.

Nottingham Forest have caught a lot of flack for speaking out

It was a move that has courted lot of controversy, but one that they are not backing down from.

Nottingham Forest have requested the audio from Sunday's VAR and have also now released another statement clarifying their concerns around the VAR choice on Sunday.

In the replies to Forest's post on X were several Newcastle fans voicing their support for Nottingham Forest's crusade, saying that it's great to see a club finally taking a stand.

We hope other clubs lend their voice and make the PGMOL take notice

Newcastle have been on the receiving end of some shocking VAR calls, but in fairness, we've been on the other side too seeing certain things go our way that normally wouldn't.

However, there aren't many people who think that VAR is currently fit for purpose as is, and when you add into the mix that officials with "contextual bias" as Nottingham Forest put it, can still officiate on games and make big calls like the three we saw on Sunday, then it definitely needs a review.

It's not just in the English game either, as Newcastle can attest after Paris Saint-Germain benefitted from a shocking VAR call against the Magpies in the Champions League which ultimately cost Newcastle a place in the knockout stages.

We love that Forest aren't backing down, and we hope that more clubs will join the fight with them. It's the only way to get things to change.
