Newcastle United as a club could maybe learn a thing or two from Anthony Gordon's interview with Gary Neville for The Overlap.

One thing that came as a big shock during Gary Neville's sit down with Anthony Gordon is just how much freedom Gordon is given by Eddie Howe when it comes to training.

We all know how intense Eddie Howe is and we've always got the impression he's very much a "my way or the highway" kind of person, but Anthony Gordon has revealed that it's not like that at all.

Gordon was speaking about his training and what he does to stay in shape and admits that he doesn't necessarily follow the rest of the team.

Anthony Gordon won't do weight training or massages and treatments

Gordon says he does not do any weight lifting, and when the rest of the team goes into the gym he will stay outside and work on the pitch, saying that he told Eddie Howe about his preferences when he joined and Howe is happy to let him do what he's most comfortable with.

'I don't do weight training at all. Ever.

"The lads at the club do do it. One, my game is not really reliant on it and I just think we do enough running and natural weight on your muscles and your body, it's just going to put you under more stress resulting in more chances of injury."

Gordon has been mostly injury-free all season

Neville then asks him what he does when the rest of the team goes into the gym for weight training.

"I go for my lunch. I eat my food. I think the club are very understanding with how I am because physio treatments and gym I don't do. I don't go in the gym, I don't go in for treatments. I do a lot of stretching, a lot of yoga. But actual weights and treatments? Not for me."

Gordon admits that it could make him quicker, but doesn't feel that the long-term effects would be worth it in terms of increased risk of injury.

Given how many players have been injured at Newcastle this season and how Gordon has stayed largely injury-free, maybe there are lessons to be learned here.
