Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon has given an exceptionally candid interview with Gary Neville for Sky Sports' The Overlap.

The young England international came across brilliantly in the 50-minute video with former Manchester United man Gary Neville as they talked about all things Anthony Gordon.

Neville admitted to being 'blown away' by how Gordon thinks and prepares for games as the two discussed how he gets ready for games and what he does after.

However, it was when asked whether he'd rather score the winning goal that bagged a trophy for Newcastle or score in a tournament for England that Gordon gave one of his best answers.

Gordon went with scoring a winning goal for Newcastle to win silverware

Gordon said that given the way the question was phrased he'd have to go with scoring a winning goal for Newcastle to lift a trophy.

"Based on the question, I'm going to go with the Newcastle goal. I think when we win a trophy here it's going to be absolutely crazy and I think that team will forever be legends."

Gary Neville then picked up on Gordon's wording noting that he said "when we win a trophy" saying that he seems absolutely sure they're going to win a trophy.

Anthony Gordon thought Newcastle would win a trophy this year

Gordon, without hesitation, doubled down on what he'd said.

"Yeah, one million per cent. Honestly, I thought we would this year, but our cup draws were absolutely mental."

In every cup competition Newcastle had to go the hard route. The Champions League saw the Magpies drawn in the 'group of death', now the two teams who qualified from that group are in the semi-finals. In the FA Cup, every draw had Newcastle as the away team, and the Carabao Cup saw Newcastle come up against one of the 'big six' in every round.

But, you have to beat the best to be the best and unfortunately, that wasn't us this season.
