'Red-hot': Alan Shearer picks just one Newcastle man in his Premier League Team of the Week

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer hid his bias well this week as he only selected one Newcastle player in his Premier League Team of the Week.

In a week where Garth Crooks picked two Mags and WhoScored? went with four, it's a surprise to see Alan Shearer only pick one following the 5-1 win over Sheffield United on Saturday.

Saying that, though, Newcastle were hardly at their best and it was a scoreline that absolutely flattered Eddie Howe's men over the 90 minutes.

Shearer opted to include two-goal hero Alexander Isak in his selection for Premier League Productions, which makes sense given the amount of praise the legendary number nine gave Isak on Saturday's Match of the Day.

Alexander Isak is putting pressure on in the race for the Golden Boot

Isak kept himself in the hunt for the Golden Boot with his brace on Saturday but that first hat-trick once again eluded him.

In justifying his selection, Shearer said that Isak is in 'red-hot form' right now, which is probably an understatement.

"Alexander Isak (Newcastle)
"He is in red-hot form. Netted two goals to take his tally to 19 in the league and is a firm contender for this season's Golden Boot. Two confident and well-struck finishes - one coming from the penalty spot."

Is Alexander Isak better than Erling Haaland?

We can't think of a better striker in the Premier League right now. Erling Haaland may be a lethal finisher but his all-round play is pants compared to Isak who roams around the final third looking for ways to create space and open up the game.

If we can get a full season out of Isak then the numbers will definitely show that he's number one. I backed him to chase Haaland down for the Golden Boot this season but when he kept getting injured I thought he'd be well off the pace. Haaland has had his share of knocks too which has kept the race alive.

Isak keeps coming close to that hat-trick and if he can pick one up in the final few games that will put him well in contention for top scorer. Just one more goal would make him the first Newcastle player to score 20 Premier League goals in a season in almost 20 years since Alan Shearer last hit that tally.
