Report: Barcelona are looking to in-form Newcastle star for Robert Lewandowski replacement

It's another day, it's another Alexander Isak transfer story.

Newcastle United fans might as well get used to it until the transfer window closes at the end of August, as at any given opportunity, the media is going to suggest that Alexander Isak is fair game for Europe's top clubs.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have already been named as suitors and now Barcelona's name has entered the frame thanks to The Sun.

With Robert Lewandowski edging ever closer to retirement, Barcelona need someone who can take over the Polish striker's impressive mantle.

The Sun's 'source' thinks Barca could turn Isak's head

The report claims that Barcelona will be confident they could strike a deal for less than Newcastle's asking price before going on to quote their source saying that Barcelona have been monitoring Isak for a while.

“Isak is emerging as one of the best strikers in Europe, and Barcelona have been scouting him since Christmas.

“They see him as a player who could come in and lead their line for the next three or four years and be a massive success.

"He has all the attributes and would be a superb signing.

“Although Isak is happy at Newcastle, the chance of a move to a club like Barcelona would be very difficult to turn down.

"Newcastle know they will need to raise funds in the summer which is why Barcelona are ready to make their move.

"And, at 24 years of age, his best years are ahead of him.”

Other reports say the club are relaxed about Isak's future

Meanwhile, inews are reporting that Newcastle are relaxed about Isak's future at the club saying that the club are unwilling to sell and that Isak doesn't want to leave.

Between a report from northeast-based journalist Mark Douglas and The Sun's "sources" we know who we're more inclined to believe.

We get that Isak is going to be a constant source of speculation until the transfer window is shut again, but we, like the club, are currently not worried. We know some players will be sold this summer, but we really don't think they're going to sell our best assets so early into the project.
