Report: Newcastle have already held talks with hopeful club about 19-year-old's immediate future

Yankuba Minteh bagged the first silverware of his career on Sunday helping Feyenoord to a KNVB Cup final win over NEC Nijmegen.

It wasn't all smiles for the 19-year-old Gambia international, as the Newcastle United loanee saw red on 72 minutes for a second bookable offence. Fortunately, Feyenoord were able to hold on to their 1-0 lead for the duration of the game to lift the cup.

Minteh has had a fairly exceptional season at the Dutch champions, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists this season, representing the club in the Champions League and becoming a regular starter under Arne Slot.

He's worked on his game, too, with big criticisms of his play dwindling as the season has gone on and he's worked on his flaws.

Newcastle and Feyenoord have already spoken about another loan

Overall it's fair to say that it has been a successful loan move for all parties. So much so that both Feyenoord and Minteh are keen to sign up for another year.

However, the Rotterdam club will be made to wait to find out Newcastle's verdict. That's despite Voetbal International reporting that talks between the two clubs have already taken place.

Eddie Howe wants to assess Minteh in person before deciding on his future so the young star will be part of Howe's pre-season set up before a decision is made.

Minteh is keen to extend his stay in Rotterdam

While it would make sense if Howe doesn't feel he's ready for the Premier League yet, to loan Minteh out again, we feel it makes more sense to send him to a Championship club as the English game is very different to the Eredivisie.

Minteh, on the other hand, would relish another stint at Feyenoord having been so successful there this season.

In fairness, we can't really complain with how Arne Slot has developed Minteh in this past year, and while it may not be the same as the English game, there's still plenty for Minteh to learn playing at the higher end of the Eredivisie and in Europe, so it wouldn't be a bad thing if he did have another season with Feyenoord.
