Reports coming out of Algeria are suggesting that Newcastle United are going to challenge West Ham United for the Jupiler Pro League's second top-scorer.

Algerian international striker Mohamed Amoura who plays for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise has apparently caught the eye of West Ham and Newcastle according to La Gazette du Fennec (via Sport Witness)

The 23-year-old apparently has his sights set on a move to the Premier League which should be good news for Newcastle. Even better is the fact that West Ham have already seen a £12.8million bid rejected for the forward, with Union SG holding out for £17million.

Amoura could prove to be a bargain for whoever picks him up.

Amoura in Europa League action against Liverpool this season

Amoura has bagged 22 goals for Union SG this season

This season Amoura has played 40 times for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise and has scored 22 goals in all competitions, including playing in the Europa League and Europa Conference League.

Team Talk also recently released a report suggesting that Tottenham were ready with a 'concrete bid' for Amoura, so it seems there's plenty of interest in the young striker.

Newcastle definitely need to add to their roster of strikers this summer after being caught out being short in that area a few times this season.

The Premier League would be a big step up for Amoura1259

Our big concern would be the step up in quality between the Jupiler Pro League of Belgium to the English Premier League and whether he would be able to handle such a big jump up.

On the flip side, we could pick him up for less than £20million which does minimise the risk quite a bit.

If Spurs and West Ham are both keen, he must have something about him, and 22 goals in a season for a 23-year-old isn't something to be sniffed at either.
