Report: Newcastle will have to wait another season before seeing promising youngster in black and white

Newcastle United have had two young players out on loan in the Eredivisie this season with two very contrasting experiences.

Yankuba Minteh has come on leaps and bounds under the guidance of Arne Slot at Feyenoord and even helped the Rotterdam club lift silverware on Sunday as they won the KNVB Cup. Minteh was involved in the build-up for Feyenoord's goal but also found himself in the headlines for picking up his marching orders on 72 minutes.

However, we're sure Garang Kuol would trade that bit of bad luck in a heartbeat as his loan move at Eredivisie strugglers FC Volendam has gone about as well as his six month loan at Hearts last season.

The 19-year-old Australian international had a meteoric rise to prominence down under and Newcastle were quick to swoop for the striker who was plying his trade at Central Coast Mariners.

Loaning Garang Kuol out was always part of the plan

Potential work permit issues meant that Newcastle were preparing to loan Kuol out to a European side so he would earn enough points to gain a visa in England, however, thanks to his participation in the World Cup, Kuol met the threshold before officially joining the Magpies, and as such was able to move just north of the border to Hearts in the Scottish Premiership.

The loan didn't really work out for anyone and it was hoped that the Magpies would find a better option for the Egyptian-born Aussie this season. He ended up at FC Volendam, a small club in the Eredivisie who have struggled all season and with that, so too has Kuol.

In his 17 appearances this season he's managed one assist and one, absolutely stunning goal, but Newcastle will have been hoping for more from the promising youngster, especially with Minteh doing so well at Feyenoord.

Newcastle can't afford to make the same mistake again

In fairness to Kuol, the step up from the Australian league to the Scottish Premiership and the Eredivisie is quite a leap in itself, but when you're a young lad moving to the other side of the world, it's going to take some time to adjust.

According to The Athletic, when Kuol was signed it was under the agreement that it would be at least 18 months before he was considered to be part of the first team set up at Newcastle, but now, after two failed loans, that has been pushed back, and Kuol will be loaned out again next season.

Here's hoping that we find somewhere more suitable this time. It's going to be hard to convince a top team to take him given his lack of experience, but Newcastle really need to find a club who will not just play him regularly, but will help him develop too.
