Belgium came within a whisker of beating England for the first time on English soil tonight were it not for a dramatic late equaliser from Jude Bellingham.

From a Newcastle United point of view there wasn't a great deal to get excited about as Anthony Gordon was not deployed until 80 minutes and barely had a change to get involved, however there were some notable former Newcastle men involved in the proceedings.

Former Newcastle striker Ivan Toney got his first England goal from the penalty spot up against Nottingham Forest and former Newcastle 'keeper Matz Sels.

It was also one-time Newcastle target Youri Tielemans who bagged both of Belgium's goals on the night.

Gordon had a brief cameo but not a lot to do

Anthony Gordon will now be hoping he once again gets the call from Gareth Southgate as he has one more squad to put together before deciding on his Euro 2024 group.

Gordon has impressed the England manager in training and was one of the best players on the pitch on Saturday when England took on Brazil so he should be in Southgate's thoughts for the Euros already.

As long as the Newcastle winger keeps fit and keeps performing for his club, there's no real reason why he shouldn't go to Germany in the summer.

Other Newcastle players were in international action

Meanwhile, Bruno Guimaraes and Fabian Schar were in action for Brazil and Switzerland respectively.

Guimaraes played 46 minutes for Brazil as they drew 2-2 with Spain, and Schar lasted 80 minutes as Switzerland beat the Republic of Ireland 1-0.

A few of Newcastle's youngsters were also in action today with Lewis Hall coming off the bench for England U20s and providing two assists in their 3-1 win over Czech Republic. Lewis Miley was not involved in that game to picking up a back injury. Newcastle are awaiting results from a scan to find out how long he'll be out for, but it's not looking good.

Charlie McArthur was part of the Scotland U19 side that got beat by Czech Republic and the Newcastle defender found himself dismissed early three minutes into second-half stoppage time for picking up his second yellow card.

Garang Kuol was on the bench for Australia U21s in the West Asian Football Federation Championship Final against South Korea as his older brother, Alou bagged two goals in a 2-2 which took the game to penalties. Alou also took the Olyroo's first spot kick, which he duly scored. Garang Kuol also stepped up to take a penalty which was saved by the Korean 'keeper winning the shootout for South Korea.
