Newcastle United midfielder Jeff Hendrick has been reinstated into Sheffield Wednesday's squad after being left out after the January transfer window.

Hendrick joined the Owls on deadline day last September but has only made 10 appearances before losing his place in the squad.

But with the club sitting second bottom of the Championship with just eight games to go, drastic times have called for drastic measures.

Hendrick has returned to the squad and should feature for Danny Rohl at some point in the near future.

Is Hendrick the man to save the day?

Hendrick's contract at Newcastle is up this summer and he will be hoping for a miracle should he wish to stay at the Magpies.

The Irish international joined Newcastle in 2020 and made an instant impact under former head coach Steve Bruce, scoring on his debut in a 2-0 win against West Ham.

But soon after that, Hendrick fell out of favour and struggled to for game time.

Hendrick scored the last goal of the Mike Ashley era against Wolves, but upon Eddie Howe's arrival he was loaned out to QPR for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.

A season at Reading followed before joining Sheff Wednesday.

With FFP problems plaguing Newcastle in the transfer market, there seems to be little chance of Hendrick staying at the club for another season.

The reason for Hendrick's removal from the Owls squad was due to a knee injury, which was made clear in late December.

Now he's on the mend he has the opportunity to help guide Wednesday to safety.

But at 32-years-old and back-to-back relegations looming, Hendrick will need to go back to the drawing board to save his footballing career should he become a free agent in the summer.
