Newcastle United could have a fresh option available on the bench for their next game against Crystal Palace on 24th April.

Sky Sports News has shown that Newcastle's £20million striker, Callum Wilson was back in full training with the squad at Benton this morning.

Wilson has been missing since he injured himself in the dying embers of the defeat to Nottingham Forest in February.

The striker tore a pectoral muscle in a tussle with a Forest defender while chasing a lost cause.

Wilson will still play second fiddle to Isak

Alexander Isak has been in stunning form for Newcastle in Wilson's absence and is pushing to catch Erling Haaland and now Cole Palmer at the top of the Premier League scoring charts.

It's likely that Isak will continue as first choice for the rest of the season as long as he stays fit, but at least now Eddie Howe will have the option to rest him if he's getting tired with Wilson always a danger when coming off the bench.

It's been another very injury-ravaged season for Wilson who has only managed 22 appearances this season, in which he's bagged eight goals.

Wilson has been lethal off the bench in the past for Newcastle

There's a strong belief that Wilson could be sold this summer after there was an apparent interest in his services in January.

However, Newcastle are already short of options up front, having to resort to fielding Anthony Gordon as a striker several times this season when both Isak and Wilson have been injured at the same time.

The only way selling Wilson makes sense is if the club plans to bring in two new strikers.

For now, though, it's just good to see Wilson back in training and potentially giving Eddie Howe a stronger bench at his disposal for the remaining fixtures this season.
