We thought we were done writing about this one but a report doing the rounds today has made the connection again, so here we are.

Leading up to and pretty much all through January Newcastle United were said to be the nailed-on destination for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

However, the Premier League champions slapped Phillips with an outrageous loan fee that priced Newcastle out of the market as they aim to keep their noses clean when it comes to Profit and Sustainability.

The former Leeds United man ended up joining West Ham on loan which he had hoped would revive his career after languishing on the bench at City since his £45million move from Leeds.

West Ham haven't seen the best of Phillips and probably never will

Things haven't gone to plan for Phillips, to put it politely. In fact, the man who got picked for England in every squad despite never having kicked a ball while at Man City, suddenly found himself dropped by Gareth Southgate after seeing him play for West Ham.

Now with the season coming to a close in just a few weeks, so too will Phillips' loan to West Ham and it's believed that Manchester City will be keen to sell the midfielder in the summer.

We doubt that West Ham will be braying Pep Guardiola's door down to make the move permanent, so where will he go?

It's a no from us

This is the question The Yorkshire Post has tried to answer using bookies' odds and Newcastle are still high up on the list. Absolute madness.

It's suggested that if Newcastle lose Bruno Guimaraes they may go back for Phillips. Thankfully we don't think we'll be losing Bruno, so this point is mercifully moot.

If Leeds United gain promotion back to the Premier League that's exactly where he'll end up. If not, then who knows? But we highly doubt it will be Newcastle. At least we hope not.
