Newcastle United have just six games remaining in the Premier League season but Joe Willock will not play a part in any of them.

It has been an absolute nightmare season for Joe Willock who ended the previous campaign injured and will now do the same again one year on.

Willock picked up a hamstring injury towards the back end of last season which kept him out of pre-season, and just as he was starting to regain fitness, he picked up an achilles injury.

That injury has plagued the £25million former Arsenal man all season as he's tried a couple of times to make a comeback before breaking down again.

The Magpies have taken the wise decision to let Willock rest

It now looks as though Newcastle are refusing to take any further risks with the 24-year-old as Craig Hope has reported that the club would rather he rest than potentially make things worse.

Willock returned to action for Newcastle in October but that only lasted a month before his problem flared up again. He then tried again in February and it was clear that things still weren't right before he succumbed once again in the win against Fulham.

This means that Willock has only managed 14 appearances this season in all competitions only managing to see out a full game once.

Newcastle have a more than capable replacement ready to go

Willock now joins Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles as players we'll not see in action again this season.

Fortunately for Eddie Howe, Elliot Anderson has come back from his long-term injury and looks ready to take on the world.

The Newcastle academy graduate has looked excellent since his return and will step up in Willock's absence.
