Eddie Howe needs to increase his options up front ahead of next season after Newcastle United were caught wanting on multiple occasions this season.

Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson's injury issues this season left Eddie Howe having to field Anthony Gordon as a striker in several games this season, and while the winger did an admirable job, it's clearly not his best position.

Going into next season Newcastle need a third option to prevent history repeating itself, and with Callum Wilson tipped to leave this summer that means the Magpies may need to sign two forwards in the upcoming window.

This is why Newcastle are stepping up their interest in one of the Bundesliga's most exciting forwards according to Team Talk.

Sesko is back on Newcastle's radar

Newcastle have gone up another level in their pursuit of Benjamin Sesko

The report claims that Newcastle are intensifying their scouting of RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko who has been on Eddie Howe's radar for a while now.

Newcastle were keen on the 'incredible' forward before he switched Red Bull flavours from Salzburg to Leipzig in the summer and after a successful step up to the Bundesliga, Newcastle clearly feel he could make the next step to the Premier League.

Sesko has 13 goals and two assists this season in all competitions from 37 appearances.

This would be a huge coup for Newcastle in the summer

The 20-year-old is also being followed by Manchester United and Chelsea as well as other clubs with the price set for his services said to be just £43million.

Such a low asking price could spark a big bidding war in the summer, but if Newcastle move quickly they could get ahead of the competition and pick up an exciting young striker with bags of potential for a snip.

Strikers always come with a premium price tag so picking up someone with Sesko's reputation for under £50million would be a masterstroke, especially given he has international and Champions League experience already.

We really hope this one happens.
