Newcastle United continue to look for defensive reinforcements for next season and are now looking towards Juventus' Brazilian international Gleison Bremer.

The 27-year-old joined Juventus in 2022 for around £35million from Torino and has gone on to establish himself as an important feature in The Old Lady's lineup.

Bremer has been capped four times for Brazil and has earned a strong reputation around Europe for his displays for Juventus.

So much so that now Newcastle and Manchester United are keen to bring him to the Premier League according to a report from Tutto Mercato Web.

Newcastle and Manchester United could duke it out over Gleison Bremer

With Sven Botman possibly out until 2025, Newcastle's need for new centre-back options has increased dramatically when it was already pretty high.

Newcastle's Brazilian connection with Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes - should that stay intact over the summer - could be a big draw for Bremer to choose Newcastle, however, The Hard Tackle claims he would prefer a move to Liverpool or Real Madrid.

As it stands, though, neither of those clubs have declared an interest so he may not have those options available, but he could just remain at Juventus for the time being.

Bremer could be a costly investment

Having joined Juventus for £35million we'd expect that they would want to recoup the majority of that fee, if not more, so Bremer may not be the cheapest option out there, especially if Manchester United want to get into a bidding war.

However, Newcastle's desperation will be well known, so clubs are going to try and exploit that at any given opportunity meaning if we are going to sign worthy defenders, we're going to have to expect to pay a premium.

Gleison Bremer would definitely be a big signing for Newcastle, but we have to temper our expectations again going into summer. FFP/PSR will once again dictate how much we can spend and with so many positions needing filled, we're going to have to be very clever in the transfer market this summer.
