Report: Newcastle loanee dubbed ‘big disappointment’ could see now his deal ended early in January

On deadline day, Newcastle United finally found someone to take Jeff Hendrick off their hands, but there may be a bit of loaner's remorse setting in.

Jeff Hendrick is one of the biggest flops to ever don the black and white. After scoring on his Premier League debut it's difficult to remember anything else he actually did while at Newcastle.

The Ireland international arrived on a free transfer after leaving Burnley in 2020 and agreed a four-year deal with the club which is set to expire next summer.

Hendrick was high on the list of players that Newcastle wanted to get off their books this summer but due to high wages and lengthy contracts it proved to be an uphill struggle.

Sheffield Wednesday

Eventually, Championship side Sheffield Wednesday opted to take him on a season-long loan. Perfect for Newcastle as his contract would expire when his loan did so he was technically gone for good, although you'd suspect that we are still paying a chunk of his wages to help Sheffield Wednesday out.

Now it seems that his loan may be cut short by his new club after failing to impress. Hendrick has struggled to get into the Wednesday side who sit rock bottom of the Championship with Yorkshire Live saying in a recent report:

"Hendrick, borrowed from Newcastle United, has been a big disappointment and has made little impact when either starting or brought on. Wednesday could save a pretty penny by ending the arrangement early and therefore saving on his wages."

Newcastle should just terminate his deal if he's sent back in January

If he can't get into a struggling Championship side, why would we want him back? Even with our current injury crisis, would taking him back give us any benefit?

With just a few months left on his contract would it not be better for Newcastle United and the player himself if we just arranged a mutual termination and paid him off to leave?
