Sandro Tonali not expected to be hit with an extended ban following latest announcement - journalist

Sandro Tonali has been found to have breached the FA's Betting Rules 50 times since his summer move to Newcastle United.

The Italy international is already serving a 10-month ban from football for breaching Italy's gambling rules when he was an AC Milan player. The Italian Football Federation imposed a worldwide ban from football for 10 months while Tonali must attend rehab for gambling addiction.

The 23-year-old has been allowed to train with the Newcastle first team, but can't take part in any matches and can only appear in friendlies that are played behind closed doors.

It's a hefty punishment, but it's not expected to be made any worse despite the FA's findings.

The FA launched a separate investigation following the IFF's ban to uncover whether Tonali had continued betting after his £55million summer move to Newcastle.

That investigation has now concluded and it has been found that the midfielder breached The FA's rule E8 50 times between August and October. The dates imply that Tonali did stop when the Italian investigation got underway, which should be taken into consideration by the FA as they deliberate on what punishment to hand out.

Newcastle United aren't expecting Tonali's ban to be extended

Luke Edwards has said that he doesn't expect Tonali's ban to be extended by the FA.

Serving any ban handed down concurrent to the one he's already serving would be the fairest way to deal with it if they are to hand down a further ban. Bear in mind that Ivan Toney was banned for eight months for over 200 breaches, so Tonali's shouldn't be as severe, especially when you consider the fact that he's already being punished and is complying with everything.
