'Obsessed' Pep Guardiola eyes move for Newcastle's £100m midfielder

The prospect of signing Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has engrossed Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, reports suggest.

The Brazilian international has set the world alight since joining Newcastle from Lyon in January 2022 and was rewarded with a new deal that made him the clubs most valuable player on a reported £160,000 per-week.

Included in the deal was a £100m release clause that will surely have a number of the top clubs in Europe keeping tabs on his progress.

Man City boss Guardiola is no exception to that.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Guimaraes is said to be someone who "obsesses" Guardiola and wants him in his Man City squad this summer.

Man City fans had the pleasure of seeing Guimaraes in action in their FA Cup quarter-final against the Magpies on March 16.

Fichajes also reported that Newcastle have implemented a no-sale stance regarding Guimaraes, unless a record offer for him comes in. So the ball is now in Man City's court to put an offer in this summer.

Real Madrid are also reportedly interested in bringing Guimaraes in -The Brazilian featured in his national sides 3-3 draw against Spain at Los Blancos Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday but failed to make an impact.

But now the real concrete interest seems to be at Guardiola's door, an offer for Bruno seems imminent and it may be hard to keep the the 26-year-old at the club.

The thought among Newcastle fans is that he would leave if Eddie Howe's side fail to qualify for Europe this season. A player of his stature should be playing in Europe's top competitions each year.
